Privacy Policy
The short version: We collect only what the app needs to work. We never sell your information and never show you ads. Your kitchen data is stored in Canada. A few trusted services outside Canada help us read photos, look up barcodes and send sign-in emails.
Who we are
Stocked Well is made by the makers of Stocked Well, in British Columbia, Canada. Questions about privacy: help@stockedwell.app.
What we collect, and why
- Your email address, to sign you in with a code. There are no passwords.
- Your name (whatever you type), so people in your household see who added what.
- Your household's kitchen: food and household items, amounts, and where they're kept.
- Receipts: the store, date, each item and its price. This is your purchase history, and we treat it as personal information. It's used to fill your kitchen, catch repeat scans, tick off your shopping list and, later, to suggest what you might need again.
- Recipes you add, and the recipes you save, plan and cook.
- Your shopping list, meal plan, household size and settings.
We don't collect your location, contacts or card numbers, and we don't use advertising or tracking tools.
Photos
Receipt and recipe photos are sent to our AI reader, turned into a list, and then thrown away. We never store the photos. You check the list before anything is saved.
Barcodes
When you scan a barcode, only the barcode number is sent to Open Food Facts (France) and, if they don't know it, USDA FoodData Central (United States), to find out what the product is. Your name, email and kitchen are not sent. If you take a photo of a package, it's read by Anthropic (United States) and not kept. Product names found this way are saved for everyone who uses Stocked Well, with nothing about who scanned them.
Who else handles your information
We use a small number of service providers. Each one only gets what it needs:
| Service | What it does | Where |
|---|---|---|
| Supabase | Stores your account and household data | Canada (Central) |
| Anthropic (Claude) | Reads receipt, recipe and package photos | United States |
| Open Food Facts | Looks up barcode numbers (only the number is sent) | France |
| USDA FoodData Central | Looks up barcode numbers Open Food Facts doesn't know | United States |
| Resend | Sends your sign-in code emails | United States |
| Apple / Google | Deliver the app to your phone | Their own policies apply |
Anthropic does not use what we send to train its AI. It may keep it for a short time for safety checks, then deletes it. Information handled in the United States can be accessed by authorities there under US law.
We never sell or rent your information. We share it only if the law requires it, or if the app is sold to another company. In that case this policy still applies, and we'll tell you first.
Your household
Everyone in your household sees the shared kitchen, receipts and prices, shopping list, meal plan, saved and added recipes, who cooked what, and each other's names. Anyone with your invite code can join, so only share it with people you trust. Anyone in the household can remove anyone.
How long we keep it
We keep your information while you use the app.
- Delete my account (in Settings): your email and name are deleted. Your household's shared data stays for the people still in it.
- The last person to leave a household: everything in that household is deleted.
- Copies can stay in backups for a short time before they're deleted too.
Your rights
You can ask to see the information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Write to help@stockedwell.app and we'll answer within 30 days. If you're not happy with our answer, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada or the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner for British Columbia.
Keeping it safe
Your data is encrypted while it travels. Database rules let only your household see its data. If a breach puts you at real risk, we'll tell you and the Privacy Commissioner.
Age
Stocked Well is for people 16 and older.
Changes
If we make an important change, we'll tell you in the app before it applies. Old versions stay available on request.
